Robert Downey Jr. cemented his status as an MCU legend long before the gut-wrenching finale of Avengers: Endgame, but it’s fair to say that April’s titanic blockbuster brought a sense of closure to his wonderful journey – a journey of triumphant highs (averting catastrophe in The Avengers) and crushing lows (watching Peter Parker fade to fust before his very eyes).

Off-screen, it seems RDJ is every bit as heroic, after vowing to use “advanced technologies for the good of the environment.” The Endgame star will help spearhead the new initiative under the banner of The Footprint Coalition, which is due to go live by April of 2020.

Via Variety:

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” Downey Jr. said, relaying that he had been given these insights a few weeks back by a roundtable of experts. “God I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects,” he joked during his talk.

As part of the presentation, Robert Downey Jr. went on to discuss the current crisis facing humanity’s greatest minds, and how this new initiative may well be the most important thing he’s ever done. Whatever the case, his vision has already caught the eye of his Endgame co-star Chris Evans, who took to Twitter to honor RDJ in his own way.

Short and sweet, really. And while the word is so often overused, Robert Downey Jr. really is befitting of a legendary title. The way in which he salvaged his acting career after a series of run-ins with the law pre-MCU has earned its place in modern Hollywood folklore, and his child-like enthusiasm should be an inspiration to us all. You could even say we love him 3,000.
