Quentin Tarantino Reveals His Favorite MCU Movie

Esteemed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has named Thor: Ragnarok as his favorite Marvel Studios movie thus far... though he's yet to see Endgame.

Thor: Ragnarok is officially Quentin Tarantino’s favorite MCU movie… and we’re inclined to agree.

The esteemed filmmaker, famous for such instant classics as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Inglorious Basterds, recently sat down with Empire (h/t ComicBookMovie) to discuss his ninth feature film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and what it was like revisiting the golden age of Tinsel Town.

But when the conversation veered toward superhero movies and, in particular, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tarantino held up his hands to admit that he hasn’t been keeping up to date with Marvel’s MCU installments for quite some time, and only began a movie marathon of his own so that he was properly prepared for Avengers: Endgame.

And during said binge, it was Thor: Ragnarok that stood head and shoulders above the rest.

I haven’t been keeping up to date with them for, I guess, the last four years. I think the only comic book movies I saw last year at theaters were Wonder Woman and Black Panther. But about a couple of weeks ago I started catching up with some of the Marvel movies so I could go see Endgame. I just finished Captain America: Civil War, so next up is Doctor Strange… Actually, the last one I saw was [Thor:] Ragnarok. I loved it. It was my favorite one of the series since The Avengers – drastically my favorite.

Not that QT’s #1 is all that surprising; when it first released back in November of 2017, Ragnarok was celebrated for its retro visuals and at-times hilarious dialogue. It’s the one MCU movie that tends to stand out from the crowd thanks to its wacky humor (see: Korg and Miek and their bizarre friendship) and A-list cast, given how Jeff Goldblum (!) plays the part of the Grandmaster, a war-mongering oddball with a thirst for entertainment.

All in all, we have writer-director Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) to thank for Thor: Ragnarok and its effortless style, so here’s hoping he’ll return to Marvel Studios soon and gain control of another MCU film. Meanwhile, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been scheduled for release next month.
