One particular part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman that’s been scoured in shadows is its villains. Though casting hasn’t been announced, the upcoming film’s looking to showcase quite a lot of Gotham’s un-finest. From what we know now, the six-baddie squad consists of Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Firefly, Two-Face, and most recently, The Mad Hatter.
With that said, one notable name has hardly been mentioned during this process: the Clown Prince of Crime himself, Joker. Yep, the character most associated with trading fists against the Dark Knight’s been absent, for the most part, from conversations about Matt Reeves’ movie.
But rumors are beginning to circulate that Macaulay Culkin could don the white makeup in 2021. And a lot of fans, including digital artist Bryan Zapp, seem to like the idea. You can check out what the famed child actor might look like as the Joker below.
Despite the several villains who’ll be appearing in The Batman, no one seems too rushed to include Mr. J. The character’s been Bruce Wayne’s biggest headache in several films already, and has also gotten plenty of time on the silver screen in the recently-concluded series, Gotham.
And it’s not like we won’t be seeing the cracked-up criminal for a long time. Joker, featuring Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of the character, is set to hit theaters on October 4th this year. So fans’ hearts shouldn’t break too much if and/or when the clown doesn’t appear in a couple years.
But with all this said, folks seem to be open to the idea, despite there being no official reports of the Home Alone star’s involvement.
