Though Avengers: Endgame fulfilled its purpose as the grand finale to Marvel’s Infinity Saga, it looks like the franchise still has a good few years ahead of it. With that in mind, another MCU team-up movie seems inevitable, and while Marvel Studios is largely keeping quiet on their plans beyond 2019, a new rumor suggests that Avengers 5 may already be in the works.
Since the source for this alleged intel is a post on Reddit, you may want to take it with a grain of salt, though Reddit moderators have apparently verified the user as someone with relevant industry connections. In any case, they’re claiming that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will indeed get a fifth cinematic outing, and that it may end up filling Marvel’s July 29th, 2022, release slot.
Only time will tell if this rumor has any real basis to it, though hopefully Kevin Feige and his team can offer some clarification at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con. Either way, now that Endgame has concluded the journeys of Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow, it’s clear that the Avengers series as we know it is over and done with.
We can therefore expect the next installment to offer a very different line-up, potentially with Captain Marvel as a major player. There’ve even been a fair few rumors circulating lately that suggest a Young Avengers or Dark Avengers film just might be on the way.
Regardless, after the world-conquering success of Endgame, it probably goes without saying that Disney isn’t going to ditch the team-up model anytime soon, whether that means delivering an Avengers 5 or something a little different. In the meantime, Marvel’s Phase 3 finally comes to a close with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2nd.
