Tom Holland Once Accidently Sent Robert Downey Jr. To Voicemail

In a recent interview for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland revealed that he accidentally sent Robert Downey Jr. to voicemail.

One of the funniest moments in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer comes courtesy of a cell phone. Peter Parker, adamant about spending his European vacation actually on vacation, goes ahead and sends Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to voicemail. “You do not ghost Nick Fury!” Happy yells behind him.

That exchange inspired FOX 5 DC’s entertainment reporter Kevin McCarthy to ask Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya who the most famous person they’ve ever sent to voicemail is. And the Spidey star’s response was pretty surprising: Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr.

When Batalon and Zendaya admitted they couldn’t top that, the 23-year-old actor went on to explain what happened, saying:

“No, he was cool about it. He Facetimed me at like 2 o’clock in the morning and I canceled the call and I was like, ‘I don’t even know who that was,’ and then when I woke up in the morning I was like, ‘Oh my god, Downey I’m so sorry. How can I help you? What do you need?’ And he asked me for a video. Jon Favreau was winning some award and I guess I sent a video in that they played on the big screen which was basically saying how amazing Jon Favreau is.”

This interaction takes on a whole new level of funny when you consider the relationship the actors’ characters share. Tony Stark had a very inspirational role in Peter’s life, almost like a father. In Homecoming a couple years ago, Parker spent a good portion of the opening act waiting desperately for Stark to call and give him a new assignment. Can you imagine if he sent Tony to voicemail then?

As hilarious as that would’ve been, we obviously won’t be seeing that happen in Far From Home, given the depressing events of Avengers: Endgame. But Stark’s presence will certainly be felt in the upcoming film, as Peter must overcome his grief and learn to carry on without Tony’s guidance.

But from the looks of the trailers and everything we’ve seen, Peter won’t have too much trouble, at the very least, kicking some major ass. And the good news is that you’ll have to only wait a couple more weeks to check it out for yourself because Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters July 2nd.
