Samuel L. Jackson’s Furious With Those New Spider-Man: Far From Home Posters

Spider-Man: Far From Home looks set to be an enormous hit. Tom Holland's take on the web-slinger is universally praised, Jake Gyllenhaal seems like he's knocked it out of the park as Mysterio and the project is coasting on the still-fresh good vibes that audiences feel towards the MCU after Avengers: Endgame. But there's one tiny aspect of the movie's marketing campaign that's continually tripping over its own feet: the posters.

First came the regular one-sheets, which fans greeted with disdain. Then followed the even worse IMAX posters, with folks pointing out that they looked like something an intern had created in a couple of minutes. They’re right, too, as they’re objectively terrible, featuring some very lazy cutouts of the movie’s characters on a nonsensical and clashing background.

Now the posters for Far From Home are in hot water again and this time, with none other than Samuel L. Jackson. The actor shared an Instagram post this week showing two Nick Fury posters side by side, with the picture flipped on each of them. For most characters, this wouldn’t be a problem, but Fury has an eyepatch on one eye and as such, you can’t just flip the image and call it a day.

Jackson’s response was righteously furious, too, with the star saying:

“Uhhhhhhh, What In The Actual FUCK IS GOING ON HERE???!!! #headsgonroll#lefteyemuthafukkah”

I suspect whatever poor graphic designer that absent-mindedly knocked out this poster in an afternoon is clearing his desk as we speak.

Given that similar criticism was leveled at some terrible Spider-Man: Homecoming posters back in 2017, maybe this could be due to the designs being created by Sony Pictures rather than Disney? For the last few years, we’ve seen some really neat posters for MCU films, with particular praise due to Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m sure it’s a complicated contractual thing between the two companies, but perhaps Sony should just let Disney take care of the Spider-Man marketing in the future?
