Finn and Rey in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Some Star Wars Fans Believe That Disney Saved The Franchise

A number of The Last Jedi's biggest online critics have seemingly warmed to Star Wars: Episode VIII, even going so far as to say that Disney saved the franchise.

Is there another Star Wars movie more divisive than The Last Jedi?

Revenge of the Sith, maybe? Either that or The Phantom Menace, which still has its own supporters and apologists 20 years after its debut – not that that’s surprising, really, given that Darth Maul and “Duel of the Fates” has helped cement Episode I‘s status as a true cult favorite. Circling back to The Last Jedi, though, and it seems a number of the film’s biggest critics have warmed to Episode VIII and Rian Johnson’s direction.

As reported by Cheat Sheet, some Star Wars fans have now voiced their love of The Last Jedi, even going so far as to say that Disney “saved” the franchise when it acquired Lucasfilm and all of its precious assets for around $4 billion back in 2012.

Via Twitter:

Whether it’s just for fun, by accident, or for research (especially research because I’m supposed to be goal oriented) I always get distracted by The Last Jedi and can’t stop watching it wherever I may land in it. And I never fail to utter at some point ‘god, I love this movie.’

Another Twitter user highlighted The Last Jedi‘s music and overall cinematography as reasons for his/her change of heart, while also noting that revisiting the Star Wars sequel more than a year after its original release helped reveal a newfound appreciation for Rian Johnson’s addition to the iconic franchise.

Man, I used to hate The Last Jedi. I really disliked it, but over the past year and a half hearing people talk about its themes and admiring its visuals, cinematography, music, etc., I’ve come to really love it. It’s probably my 2nd favorite behind ROTS now. It IS Star Wars.

And perhaps most exciting of all, the Star Wars franchise is bracing for a historic end to 2019, what with The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker both scheduled for release before the year comes to a close. Before all that, though, comes the grand opening of Galaxy’s Edge, the brand new theme park featuring dining options and interactive rides inspired by that galaxy far, far away.
