Gamora Infinity War

Zoe Saldana Teases Gamora’s Return In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Over the weekend, Zoe Saldana teased Gamora's possible return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which could be with us in 2021.

Avengers: Endgame concluded the stories of many of our favorite heroes in very definite ways, chief among them being Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow. One person whose future was left in question, though, was Gamora’s. Surprisingly, the fiercest woman in the galaxy remained dead after being murdered on Vormir in Avengers: Infinity War, though an alternate version of the Mad Titan’s daughter from the altered 2014 timeline did partake in the big final battle against Thanos in Endgame.

We didn’t see what happened to this alt version of the character after the villain had been defeated, though, so her final fate’s unknown. Unfortunately, the filmmakers have been pretty cagey on the topic of whether we’ll see her again or not in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with the Russos saying that ultimately, it’s up to James Gunn.

Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, seems similarly cryptic, telling fans at ACE Comic Con recently that “it all depends” on both Gunn and Marvel.

“It all depends. The technical answer is it all depends on what Marvel and James Gunn desire to do with the Guardians and with Gamora’s fate,” Saldana said. “I would eventually, there’s a part of me that wants her to go back, find her way back to the Guardians but there’s also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora. I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy so I would want to see what that wrath looks like also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians.”

If you’ll recall, the final moments of Endgame saw Star-Lord looking through an intergalactic database for proof of Gamora’s survival, but he gets a bit distracted when the God of Thunder appears on his ship. Considering their line-up is now missing one of its most important players, it’s likely Thor will play a role in the future of the Guardians franchise, but can we expect to see Saldana show up again as well?

If you ask us, despite everyone’s reluctance to give us a firm answer, it seems like the fan favorite will be popping up in the threequel in at least some capacity. After all, James Gunn was heavily involved in both Endgame and Infinity War and we imagine he already has a plan in place for how to continue her story arc in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After all, given that it’ll be the conclusion to the team’s arc as a whole, we can’t imagine the director leaving Gamora out given how she’s one of the most important characters in the franchise.
