Avengers: Endgame might have ended with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes saving the day and reversing the effects of the Snap, but it did leave us with a heck of a lot of questions as to the ins and outs of how bringing back half the population of the universe five years after they disappeared would work. Thankfully, Spider-Man: Far From Home offered a few more details on the incident.
The sequel opens with a badly-made memorial video for Iron Man and Captain America (the world apparently believes he’s dead, too) which segues into a newscast from Betty Brant (Angourie Rice) and Jason Ionello (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.). They tell us that the five-year time jump is known as the Blip, demonstrating what happened with some footage recorded in the Midtown High gym. In the first clip, a marching band is partially dusted by the Snap. In the second, the dusted band members suddenly appear during a basketball game, causing chaos to ensue.
As for how this would affect the education system, an irritated Betty reveals that any formerly dusted students had to redo the school year, despite having been halfway through it when they vanished. Likewise, Jason can’t get his head around how his younger brother is now older than him.
The next scene cuts to Aunt May hosting a charity event to raise funds for those left homeless by the Blip. In doing so, May reveals that she was dusted and reappeared in a humorous way. When she returned to life in her apartment, the woman who now lived there thought she was having an affair with her husband and her mother thought she was a ghost.
It’s all light-hearted stuff, but this does help paint a fuller picture of the wider ramifications of the Snap’s reversal. It’ll also be interesting to see if the issue is swept under the rug after Spider-Man: Far From Home or if future movies will touch on its side effects as well.
