It’s safe to say that so many fans were disappointed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Despite its critical success, a lot of the Star Wars community felt that the Rian Johnson picture was jumbled and ruined a lot of what was brought to the table in The Force Awakens. But there was one scene that was universally praised for its vibrant colors, beautiful cinematography, and unexpectedly new depictions of violence.
Yes, we’re talking about the throne room scene, in which Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) join forces to take on Supreme Leader Snoke and his band of not-so-merry henchmen.
As we prepare for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this year, we can only wait and hope that we’ll be given another epic battle like that one. And during a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Daisy Ridley hinted that we may be getting just that, also going into detail about how the 2017 fight came to be.
“[The Throne Room fight] felt pretty cool, and also that was really hard because everything had to match up. There’s like a dolly shot coming through and it ends with me and I think I was fighting James at the time, who’s the stuntman with the two swords. It was so tiring. We did like 25 takes because if one thing was off we had to keep going. But I was really proud of that fight,” Ridley said.
But like we said, the 27-year-old actress brought The Rise of Skywalker into the discussion, indicating that the new film presented different kinds of challenges.
“This fight, it was November, we had water being thrown at us—I’m not gonna complain about the cold, I’m just not gonna do it,” she said with a laugh. “So it was like a real thing of stamina. It felt really epic, and it felt epic even at the time. One can only imagine what it’s gonna look like.”
So even though Rian Johnson may not be at the head anymore, it’s sounding like J.J. Abrams might be bringing an up-to-par lightsaber battle to the upcoming film. And if we had to guess, that awesome first picture in our Vanity Fair gallery above comes straight from it.
That’s great news indeed, though we won’t know for sure until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.
