Is it just me, or are the majority of Robert Pattinson’s detractors failing to realized he’s not playing Edward Cullen as The Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming blockbuster? Sure, it’s perfectly okay to have your own opinion regarding specific actors and their abilities, but it’s another thing to not realize Pattinson’s been in films other than Twilight. Those who’ve been around long enough remember how Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger endured similar criticism upon being cast in their respective roles – and look how they turned out.
Look at it this way: Pattinson had to beat out other fine actors during a grueling casting process, essentially besting Nicholas Hoult in a photo finish. Based on that, Reeves and his colleagues know something we don’t as of yet, so there’s a reason why the new Dark Knight was settled upon.
Of course, how somebody plays the Bruce Wayne side of the coin counts for a heck of a lot, but being able to intimidate while in the Batman costume itself is another thing entirely. Showing us what might be is John Regan, who’s posted some amazing artwork over on Twitter. In my view, this is the best fan art we’ve seen yet. In fact, I’d say it’s so good that somebody at Warner Bros. should give this guy a job.
As you can see, a variety of designs were used for the cowl and full costume, with the first example being my personal favorite. If what we see on the big screen is anything at all like this stuff, then naysayers should be hushed. In a way, this would be similar to how people couldn’t see Keaton beyond his Mr. Mom role back in the 1980’s, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t look badass after suiting up.
Seeing as how Reeves and his crew have reportedly entered pre-production, fingers remain crossed for seeing “Battinson” in full regalia before 2019 is over. If not, then we should no doubt learn which other actors will be orbiting him soon enough.
The Batman opens in theaters on June 25th, 2021.
