Take this new Reddit post from user Drop_Release for instance, who attempted to offer some clarification on the correct terminology for the universe-changing events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Last night, Drop_Release wrote that the so-called “snap” which killed off half the population is officially referred to as “the Decimation,” and that the term “Blip” refers to the second snap that reversed the Mad Titan’s genocide. Simple, right? Well, not exactly.

The new post has seen a wave of replies from users with notably different interpretations of the terms “Decimation” and “Blip.” Specifically, some fans have pointed out that the first snap is only referred to as the Decimation in the comics, making its canon status questionable.

On top of that, there’s some disagreement over whether the Blip refers only to the second snap, or the entire process of half the population being dusted then resurrected five years later. Others, meanwhile, have argued that we should stop using the term Decimation if only because it doesn’t make sense in the context (traditionally, the word refers to the killing of every tenth person).

But regardless of the official terms for the two snaps, feel free to stick to whatever names work for you. After all, Spider-Man: Far From Home writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers also insist on referring to the wall-crawler’s Spider-Sense as his “Peter Tingle,” but you sure don’t have to call it that.
