James Wan’s Mortal Kombat Movie Has Cast Its Sub-Zero

The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that James Wan's upcoming Mortal Kombat movie has found its Sub-Zero in the form of Joe Taslim.

When it comes to Mortal Kombat on film, longtime fans of the franchise have had to put up with a dry spell since 1997 – well, unless you count the TV and web series that is. Still, for some reason, Hollywood has failed to test its might for 22 years now, which makes it all the more exciting that it seems they’re finally ready to give it a try again.

As you no doubt know, Warner Bros. are all set to move forward with a reboot of the series produced by none other than James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman). And while the co-creator of Saw won’t be directing the project, the studio’s already hired a suitable filmmaker in the form of Simon McQuiod for the job. But wait, as the good news doesn’t end there.

Aside from Wan and McQuiod, we also now know that the first role has been cast, with The Hollywood Reporter telling us that Joe Taslim will play Sub-Zero. The actor is perhaps best known for his work in The Raid and Fast & Furious 6, making him a perfect candidate for what’ll no doubt be an action-packed outing.

Of course, all of this is happening at a very opportune time, too. After all, Mortal Kombat 11 saw a release on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC not too long ago and scored some solid reviews. Not to mention the game’s also reignited interest in the franchise, which Wan and McQuiod’s film will no doubt hope to capitalize on.

The latest crack at Mortal Kombat in live action is expected to be with us on March 5th, 2021, and with Taslim now on board, we imagine it won’t be too much longer now before the rest of the cast is filled out. As always, watch this space for more.
