Sam Raimi And Bruce Campbell Are Working On Ideas For New Evil Dead Movie

According to Bloody Disgusting, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are working on ideas for a new Evil Dead movie. Groovy, indeed!

With Bruce Campbell having recently retired from the franchise and Ash vs. Evil Dead cancelled after only three short runs, the Evil Dead saga currently sits in a state of limbo, but it appears that fans desperate for more shouldn’t give up hope just yet, as more may be on the way.

In fact, Campbell himself has already admitted that between the recent TV show and the 2013 remake, Evil Dead may still have enough interesting characters to keep things going – even without his involvement.

“You have Ash’s daughter, Brandy. She provides the lineage. Ray [Santiago] is a shaman now, you know as Pablo, and Kelly’s just a full-on Lucy Lawless type badass who’s got vengeance in her eyes,” Campbell shared with ComicBook.com last year. “So, that’s enough for me, three’s a good number. I would also continue the movies with Mia, with Jane Levy, because she’s awesome.”

But what of another full-blown Evil Dead film with Campbell and Sam Raimi steering the ship? Is such a thing a possibility? Well, it turns out that yes, yes it is. Speaking with Bloody Disgusting recently, Raimi teased that he’d love to make an Evil Dead 4 and not only is he into the idea, but he’s already begun discussing it with Campbell and producer Rob Tapert.

“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce [Campbell], Rob [Tapert] and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie,” Raimi confirmed.  “We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”

But what direction would a fourth Evil Dead movie take? Well, Raimi isn’t sure just yet, but did tease that there’s a few ways in which they could head:

“I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that. But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about, too. So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months,”

No matter what Raimi ends up deciding to do, it’s clear that there’s still a tangible appetite out there for new material, particularly after Ash Vs. Evil Dead‘s cancellation after only a handful of seasons. The ultra-violent, tongue-in-cheek show was a bloody send-up to Campbell’s Deadite adventures that a lot of fans really dug. But it seems all hope for more Evil Dead isn’t lost just yet and if Raimi’s to be believed, we should learn about the franchise’s future sooner rather than later.
