Pokémon Sword And Shield Edition Nintendo Switch Lite Announced

As a dedicated handheld, the Lite is unable to connect with television sets and has it's Joy-Cons integrated, meaning they can't be removed. The sleeker model is, therefore, lighter but the two units are otherwise the same. As far as cosmetic appearances go, several different colors will be available come launch day, though you might want to wait before pulling the trigger on a purchase. A special Pokémon Sword and Shield limited edition version of the console is due to go on sale just a few weeks later. Check it out below.

Widely lauded as a return to form following the disappointing Wii U, Nintendo’s home/handheld hybrid Switch console has been something of a smash hit since launch two years ago. Bolstered by a strong launch line-up including none other than modern classic The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the unique nature of Ninty’s flagship device has enabled it to fill a niche in the market not accounted for by Microsoft or Sony.

Despite the near-universal positivity, however, many fans have been holding out hope for a refined version of the platform intended specifically for handheld play. And so it is, following months, if not years, of speculation and rumor, that Nintendo has finally delivered on such desires. Announced today, the Nintendo Switch Lite, while functionally almost identical to the original model, boasts a few key differences that will surely appeal to more mobile gamers.

The sleeker model is, therefore, lighter but the two units are otherwise the same. As far as cosmetic appearances go, several different colors will be available come launch day, though you might want to wait before pulling the trigger on a purchase as a special Pokémon Sword and Shield limited edition version of the console is due to go on sale just a few weeks later.

Representing both halves of the upcoming Generation 8 are Sword and Shield‘s legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta. The front side features blue and red buttons – the colors for each respective version – as well as drawings of both ‘Mons present on its back. Similarly-themed special editions have been released in the past for the 3DS and its predecessors, and have since become highly sought-after collector’s items, so if you count yourself an avid Pokéfan, this bundle isn’t one to miss.

Standard editions of the Nintendo Switch Lite launch September 20 worldwide while Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s lucrative special edition is scheduled to arrive in November to coincide with their release.
