Good Omens EP Says Don’t Count On Season 2 Happening

Good Omens has proved to be a humongous hit for Amazon, with the apocalyptic comedy-drama inspiring a fervent fanbase online who can't stop sharing their adoration for the show - particularly the bond between Aziraphale the angel and Crowley the demon, who may or may not have romantic feelings for each other.

The big question is, then, whether they’ll make more to satiate the thousands of fans out there who want to see a second season. Obviously, there’s been a lot of talk about the chances of this happening, with Michael Sheen, for one, saying he’d be up for a return. One fan decided to take the question right to the top, though, and ask showrunner Neil Gaiman on Twitter. Unfortunately, it’s not positive news.

This is in contrast to what Gaiman told Radio Times back in 2017. During a set visit, the writer explained that there’s the potential for more as he and Terry Pratchett, who he penned the original novel with back in 1990, already mapped out a second book that was never written. At the time, Gaiman said it just depended on whether the first season was popular.

“Terry and I also plotted a sequel to Good Omens that we never did. It was about where the angels actually came from, which is why it was pretty easy to add extra angels (including Jon Hamm’s Gabriel) to this. And having come up with that plot, we know that if people love this enough and if the time and the will is there, we could absolutely go back and do a lot more.”

It sounds like, after going through the rewarding but arduous process of bringing the series to life since then, Gaiman isn’t interested in dedicating another huge amount of time to making a Good Omens season 2. Which is fair enough, given that it’s not the writer’s actual profession. Plus, there’s always the risk of diminishing returns. After all, how many times can the world come to the brink of destruction?
