Regardless, there’s one character in particular in this production that’s already known to be homosexual in orientation, and that’s Renee Montoya. Those familiar with her from the source material know this to be an aspect of her being, so one would’ve expected it to carry over to the silver screen.

According to multiple sources, Rosie Perez’s Renee Montoya will indeed be a lesbian, so don’t worry about her being altered in that respect. Furthermore, she’ll apparently be in a relationship with Ali Wong’s character, who’s also in the line of law enforcement. And yes, we’re told they do kiss, thereby making it clear to the audience that they’re more than just friends or colleagues.

In fact, Renee has found herself in one of DC Comics’ most high profile relationships in recent years, as she actually dated Kate Kane AKA Batwoman for a time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that particular romance will make its way over to The CW anytime soon, what with Montoya being reserved for the big screen at this point in time. But you never know what’ll happen in subsequent seasons.

Similarly, Gotham‘s iteration of Renee Montoya was also a lesbian, even enjoying a tryst with Barbara Kean during the inaugural season of the Batman prequel series. But much like Harvey Dent and Crispus Allen, the producers seemingly forgot she and those two fellas existed and let them fall by the wayside.

Other interpretations of Montoya aside, we look forward to seeing what Rosie Perez brings to the table when Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) arrives in theaters on February 7th, 2020.
