Fast & Furious Producer Says The Rock May Still Work With Vin Diesel Again

Producer Hiram Garcia told Variety that there's a very real possibility that Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson will reunite in a future Fast and Furious movie.

It’s long been documented that Universal’s world-famous Fast and Furious family experienced something of a “candy ass” rift back in 2017, when plans were announced for a spinoff revolving around Hobbs & Shaw – much to the chagrin of Vin Diesel and co-star Tyrese Gibson, it seems.

What followed was a series of very public rants about “family” and, again, “candy ass” stars hellbent on steering the Fast franchise in a different direction. And sure enough, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) haven’t shared the screen since.

But it seems there’s still a sliver of hope that Diesel and Johnson will make amends – even if it’s just a sliver. Speaking to Variety (h/t ComicBook.com) franchise producer Hiram Garcia admitted that while there’s still much work to be done, “anything is possible” in the realm of testosterone-fueled action.

Sure, I mean, look. This isn’t about a separate world, this is a world that feeds into the Fast & Furious. We just did it out of order. Whereas the Avengers and Marvel universe, they started with their spinoffs and they got to Avengers, we started with our Avengers in Fast & Furious and now we’re starting to spin it off. But it’s to help support the Fast & Furious universe because obviously, we have plans for 9 and 10, but who doesn’t want an 11, 12, and 13, so forth? Anything is possible, my friend. Anything is possible. It’s show business!

Perhaps the Powers That Be at Universal will lay the groundwork for a potential reunion in the now-filming Fast and Furious 9? Or maybe they’re plotting something special for the 10th and presumably final installment in the Fast franchise? Who knows.

But at the very least, the fact that Garcia acknowledged the apparent feud between both stars is encouraging in and of itself, particularly now that Hobbs & Shaw is about to race into theaters – and with it, a whole new breed of Fast and Furious. August 1st is the date for your diaries, by which point we may well have an update on a possible reconciliation between one Hollywood star and another.
