Fans of Quentin Tarantino have waited for a long time, but the man who brought us Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained is set to return to the limelight again. It’s been nearly four years since The Hateful Eight hit theaters and now, we’re only one week away from the release of Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, which, by all counts, is shaping up to be something truly special. Having premiered to critics and attendees at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie is currently sitting at an 88 on Metacritic (having been awarded “Must-See” status) and a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Tarantino’s latest is set in Los Angeles during the late 1960s in an alternate timeline, with multiple storylines that pay tribute to the end of Hollywood’s golden age. While its premise is not as violent as something like Inglorious Basterds or Kill Bill, it still should probably come as no surprise that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has secured an R rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America.
As reported by MovieWeb, the film received that designation for language throughout, drug use, sexual references, and strong graphic violence. Upon further thought, this rating makes sense, considering the trailers seem to hint that the infamous Tate murders will play a central part in the story. As some of you already know, every single one of Tarantino’s movies has been handed down an R rating, so this latest development seems pretty par for the course.
With plans to make an equally mature Star Trek film, it looks like Quentin Tarantino shows no signs of toning down his films anytime soon. And with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hitting theaters on July 26th, we’ll be sure to let you know how his latest effort fares.
