Matt Reeves Collaborator Says The Batman Looks Amazing

San Diego Comic Con is officially in full swing, and breaking news about some of the biggest in-development movies in Hollywood is already coming thick and fast. Warner Bros. and DC Films might be skipping the convention entirely this year despite having Joker, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Wonder Woman 1984 set for release over the next twelve months, but new information has been revealed about what is arguably the studio's most anticipated project: The Batman.

Composer Michael Giacchino, who won an Academy Award for his work on Pixar’s Up and has created music for some of the industry’s biggest blockbusters including Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Spider-Man: Far From Home, has seen some of the things his frequent collaborator and director of The Batman Matt Reeves has been working on, and he sounds impressed:

“Matt and I worked on Planet of the Apes together, we made Cloverfield. Matt is really big, Matt’s amazing. So, Matt wanted me to tell you that he’s working very hard to make a good movie… I’ve actually been able to see a few things that he’s showed me that he’s working on and it’s pretty darn awesome. It looks really, really amazing.”

The Batman has gone virtually radio silent since it was announced that Robert Pattinson had been cast as the title character but is expected to start shooting early next year, with Reeves promising a noir-driven story that makes full use of Batman’s reputation as The World’s Greatest Detective. When asked if he was interested in composing the score for the upcoming comic book movie, Giacchino was a little less forthcoming:

“I don’t know. We’ll see. I just know that my friend is working really hard right now. Anyway, I’ll say that.”

It would be foolish to expect any earth-shattering announcements regarding the studio’s upcoming slate given the fact that the DC Extended Universe has zero presence at Comic Con this year, but fans will nonetheless take any news they can get. After all, The Batman was originally announced way back in 2015 and has been plagued by production issues throughout development. Now, however, it’s currently set for a June 2021 release.
