After a superb trailer and cast interviews, we now have a much better idea of how It: Chapter Two is shaping up. The Stephen King adaptation is garnering buzz as the arguable star attraction at San Diego Comic-Con-adjacent event ScareDiego, and we’re expecting a lot more details to emerge as promotional efforts ramp up.
In fact, James McAvoy, who recently talked about a serious injury on set, has now shared a new cover from magazine Total Film that showcases the adult Losers’ Club. The actor took to Instagram to post the cover, and included the caption “we’re going back.”
The image in question (seen below) features the seven present-day versions of the Losers’ Club, including McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean, with their younger counterparts in a reflection. The water and wild undergrowth under the cast’s feet implies they’re in Derry, and more specifically the Barrens.
For those not in the know, the Barrens are the overgrown wasteland in Derry where the Losers’ Club meet, fight off bullies, and eventually use as one of the entrances to Pennywise’s underground lair. It: Chapter Two, which is to be released on September 6th, will jump forward 27 years in the lives of its characters as they reunite to face down Pennywise, with key scenes taking place in the Barrens.
Although there are memorable actors in the younger version of the Losers’ Club, notably Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard, the adult group is composed of more familiar names. The cast have been busy with press for the movie in San Diego this week, too, from Bill Hader revealing what classic movie quote he improvised, to Jessica Chastain dealing with a serious amount of blood in one of the film’s more gruesome scenes.
