Marvel Fans Freaking Out Over Natalie Portman Playing Thor In Love And Thunder

Marvel fans can't believe that Natalie Portman is returning to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder, and that she'll be the new Thor.

We knew that Thor 4 was coming, but the revelations about it at yesterday’s Marvel Comic-Con panel still blew us away. The movie is to be called Thor: Love and Thunder and will, just as we expected, bring back Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson to star and Taika Waititi to direct.

The big shock, though, is that Natalie Portman will also be returning to the franchise for the first time since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. And this time she’ll be the one wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor herself.

Here’s the moment that the news was revealed to the crowd, and as you can hear, everyone in attendance went wild.

But it wasn’t just the people lucky enough to go to SDCC that went crazy over this announcement. Social media soon exploded with reactions from Marvel fans who never thought something like this would happen.

It’s ultra-surprising, too, because Portman had previously had a well-documented falling out with Marvel over how The Dark World played out back in the day. She did recently show up in a very minor capacity for Avengers: Endgame, so that tells us that the feud was over, but fans wonder if Marvel only managed to get the star back with the promise of her getting to hold the hammer this time around.

As the image featured in a few of these tweets shows, Jane becoming Thor has a precedent in the comics. Because of this, fans had previously theorized that the MCU might go in a similar direction. However, Portman being a no-show in Thor: Ragnarok seemingly put that notion to bed. But it seems that the God of Thunder will reunite with his former flame in his fourth film after all. How will he react when he discovers that she’s now worthy, though?

We have a while to wait until we find out, as Thor: Love and Thunder isn’t due to hit theaters until November 2021, but tell us, are you excited by Jane being the new Thor? Have your say in the comments section down below.
