WandaVision Will Feature A Grown-Up Monica Rambeau

It sounds like WandaVision will be a key part of the continuing story of the MCU when it arrives on Disney Plus in 2021. Marvel’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday confirmed that the series will follow on from Avengers: Endgame and see Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch reunite with her lover Paul Bettany’s Vision, who will be resurrected thanks to Wanda’s reality-warping powers after his death in Avengers: Infinity War. 

What’s more, the show will feature a new iteration of a character we previously met in Captain Marvel. At the panel, we learned that WandaVision will introduce a grown-up Monica Rambeau into the MCU. Teyonah Parris (Dear White People) will take on the role, which was played by young actress Akira Ackbar in the Brie Larson-headed movie earlier this year.

Monica is an important figure in the comics, as she’s actually the first female Captain Marvel on the page. She’s also taken on the alter egos Photon and Spectrum as well. We guessed an older Monica would appear in the MCU at some point, then, but given her close ties to Captain Marvel lore we assumed it would be in Captain Marvel 2. Exactly how she’ll fit into WandaVision is unknown right now.

Speaking of Wanda, it was revealed that Olsen will reprise her role as Scarlet Witch alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel will apparently tie-in directly with the events of WandaVision. Again, this just goes to show how essential the Disney Plus series will be to the MCU from now on. Don’t expect them to be as disconnected from the movies as the Netflix and Hulu series from Marvel Television were.
