The more we learn about the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, the cooler it looks to be. In case you hadn’t heard, this past weekend brought news confirming that not only is LaMonica Garrett playing the villainous Anti-Monitor, but also that Brandon Routh will suit up as Kingdom Come Superman.

If that weren’t enough, Deadline reports that the iconic Burt Ward will also be stopping by during the prime time extravaganza. This is especially exciting because Mr. Ward continues to define Robin, the Boy Wonder for fans of all ages, as the Batman TV series from the 1960’s still serves as a gateway to the superhero genre for people all over the globe.

Now, we advise that you take the next bit with a grain of salt because it hasn’t been confirmed by the network as of yet, but Cosmic Book News said they learned from a source at San Diego Comic-Con that Ward will indeed be playing an older version of Robin – and the Batman on his Earth is dead.

If that is indeed the role Burt’s playing, it’d make a lot of sense, though even having him there as someone like, say, a cab driver in a cameo appearance would be awesome enough. But since this is “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” one would hope the producers are going all out to assure the most outrageous guest stars possible.

As you may know, Ward has reprised the Robin role on various occasions since the aforementioned Batman TV series concluded in the decade of flower power. Some time later, he again donned cape and mask for Legends of the Superheroes and lent his pipes to The New Adventures of Batman. And more recently, he and Adam West voiced their respective characters in the animated films Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and Batman vs. Two-Face.

Crisis on Infinite Earths” will air this fall on The CW. Keep watching this space as more develops.
