The Crown Star Reveals Season 3 Release Date

Though we've known for a while now that season 3 of The Crown would be with us later this year, it appears the premiere date has finally been narrowed down.

Fans of Netflix’s The Crown have been waiting for what feels like forever to finally lay eyes on the third season of the acclaimed royal drama, and though we’ve known for a while now that it’ll be with us at some point later this year, the streaming giant has yet to reveal an official date for folks to mark on their calendar.

Thankfully, then, one of the show’s stars has now spilled the beans. Or at least, he’s given us a pretty good idea of when to expect it. Speaking in a recent interview, Tobias Menzies let slip that season 3 will kick off in November and given that season 1 previously used that month to premiere and landed on November 4th, it’s looking pretty likely that the next run will use the first Friday of the month to debut as well. So that’d be November 1st.

Of course, that’s just a bit of speculation on our part, but either way, we now know that it’ll be here at some point in November, and likely near the start of it. And while that’s still a pretty long ways away, we at least have a better idea of when the royal drama will return to our screens.

Part of the reason why there’s been such a long gap between the previous run and this next one is, of course, due to the recasting that’s taken place. Given that season 3 of The Crown will focus on Queen Elizabeth II’s middle years, Claire Foy is now gone and has been replaced in the role by recent Oscar winner Olivia Colman. Likewise, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode are all finished well, with the aforementioned Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Daniels stepping in to take on the parts of Prince Phillip, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden, respectively.

That’s certainly an enviable cast, though it remains to be seen whether or not they can live up to the high expectations set by the previous two seasons. In any case, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as Netflix reveals an official premiere date, but for now, it’d be best to clear out your calendar for the first weekend of November.
