Ridley Scott’s Alien Headed Back To Theaters For 40th Anniversary

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic Alien will be headed back to theaters this October courtesy of Fathom Events.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years since Ridley Scott’s Alien, the first and arguably best entry in this enduring sci-fi franchise, arrived in theaters. But it truly has been four decades and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox put out a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray package earlier this year.

However, it seems that the studio isn’t stopping there as we’re now hearing that the classic flick will be headed back to theaters courtesy of Fathom Events. As as is often the case with these things, it’ll be a pretty limited run, with the movie playing on October 13th, 15th and 16th. That doesn’t give you a ton of time to catch it, but you’d be wise to get in on the action as Alien is one flick that’s definitely made even better when viewed on the big screen.

Besides, it might not be a bad idea to rewatch the original film that started it all. In the years since Alien and its similarly beloved 1986 follow-up Aliens debuted, the franchise has given us a few more sequels and spinoffs, none of which have reached the same heights as Scott’s first entry.

As for what lies ahead for the property, well, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp wanted to do a timeline-altering reboot that disregarded all of the events that followed on from the first two films but unfortunately, that project was shelved. There was also that report by The Wall Street Journal last August which said that Disney (the property’s new owners) wanted to “scale back production of costly movies that don’t fit its family-friendly, franchise-focused formula,” which doesn’t exactly bode well for the Xenomorph.

Nonetheless, if you’d like to revisit the franchise at its dread-inducing peak, be sure to head on over to Fathom Events’ website via the link below and book your seat for a screening of Alien this fall.
