A couple years ago, The Fate of the Furious and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray set everything in motion. He told ScreenRant that a sequence set in space would not be out of the question for Fast and Furious 9. Now, the sequel will be coming next year without any reported such scene. But, the series doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon, so anything is possible, especially with some of the mind-bending stunts Dom and his gang have pulled off.

In an interview with Polygon, Morgan gave the rumor new life when asked if we’ll ever get a space-based sequel, a la James Bond’s Moonraker, saying:

“Nothing’s out of the question. Absolutely nothing. It just has to be cool and it has to be good. You know, that’s the thing.”

The longtime franchise writer explained his stance on the crazy stunts through the years and in the future, which have included submarines, tanks and soon, Idris Elba’s “Black Superman.” His comments may or may not be the key to fans seeing the outlaws hijacking the International Space Station, with the scribe saying the following:

“I have one internal regulator on all this stuff. I’m a big action guy and a big action fan and I love physics too, by the way. I think the limiter for me is that we will bend to physics and never outright break it-break it.”

He continued:

“So how do you determine that? Well, for me, while you’re watching the movie and while you’re watching the action sequence, does something happen that’s so physically impossible or absurd that it breaks faith with the audience? That you suddenly can no longer enjoy the movie and you don’t care about the characters because of that breakage.”

For me, that break almost came with one scene in Fast & Furious 6 involving Dom flying through the air to catch Letty, who had just been thrown from the top of a tank. It was outrageous, impossible and there was no way either of them would have survived in real life. But, that apparently didn’t stop fans (or me) from piling into the theaters. If each movie can pull off more over-the-top stunts than the previous one, an outer space car chase just might be on the cards.

Tell us, though, does an off-planet action sequence, or entire movie sound good to you? Let us know in the usual place and be sure to get your Fast & Furious fix with Hobbs & Shaw when it hits theaters on August 2nd.
