Bohemian Rhapsody’s Allegedly Inspired Simon Cowell To Pursue An Oscar

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? The Academy-Award winning film Bohemian Rhapsody may have inspired a generation of new fans to fall in love with Queen, but it also allegedly put the idea in Simon Cowell's head that he can win an Oscar, too. He must figure that if a movie like that can somehow walk away with awards, then it can't possibly be that difficult.

The famed talent show judge reportedly wants to make the jump from television to focus on feature films as he nears his sixtieth birthday. Breaking into the movie industry is tough enough as is, but the music mogul wants more than just a flick in theaters. He wants to win an Oscar.

After witnessing the massive success of Bohemian Rhapsody, Cowell is looking at music-related film projects to undertake so he can lock down an Academy Award. It’s unknown if that would mean musicals, biopics or something else entirely, though. Maybe he’ll even produce something about this own wildly entertaining life.

There’s no indication right now as to what ideas Cowell may have in mind or even whether or not there’s truth to this rumor. It certainly would be interesting to see how the scathing critic handles pushback from something he puts his name on, though. During his time on television, the controversial Brit has a well-earned reputation for being brutally honest and sometimes even downright rude to contestants who just want to make it big.

While it’s likely that Cowell would pursue an Oscar by producing a film, it’s possible that he could try his hand at directing instead. Maybe he’ll even get in front of the camera and try to win an acting award, much like former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson did in her onscreen debut back in 2006.

Either way, this will definitely be a spectacle. Imagine how angry Glenn Close, Samuel L. Jackson, Amy Adams and more Oscar-less A-listers will be if Simon Cowell wins an Academy Award before them. If people were upset about Bohemian Rhapsody winning a couple golden statues, they surely won’t be pleased about this guy giving an acceptance speech.
