Avengers: Endgame Director Joe Russo Defends That Fake Tony Stark Quote

Actors, actresses, directors, and writers are constantly under a microscope, always watching what they say and do. If they mess up, they issue statements, own up, or do whatever they can to fix it. It's when they have to start defending themselves for something they never said nor did that they start wanting to install an off switch on Twitter. Avengers: Endgame's director Joe Russo is probably on his way to Lowe's right now.

Actors, actresses, directors and writers are constantly under a microscope, always watching what they say and do. If they mess up, they issue statements, own up or do whatever they can to fix it. It’s when they have to start defending themselves for something they never said nor did that they start wanting to install an off switch on Twitter, though. In fact, Avengers: Endgame‘s director Joe Russo is probably on his way to Lowe’s right now.

Somewhere, sometime on an alternate Earth in a galaxy far, far away, Russo said these words on The Tonight Show:

“I’ll be honest. When I heard Tony Stark say ‘billionaire, playboy, philanthropist’ in the first Avengers I decided right then that he would be the big casualty of Endgame. I know he is loved by many. But he is not loved by me. He needs to go.”

Apparently, though, that never happened and now, the director has taken to Twitter to clear the air.

Not only should every true fan of the movie know that Russo would never say that, but even if he believed it, he would never let it be known. Fanboys are some of the most passionate people in the universe, but they can also potentially be the most vicious. The director would get the tar and feather treatment if he actually said those words, and maybe not even just proverbially.

Quite a few fans believed the quote to be real though, and broke out the torches and pitchforks. Here are just a few of them:

Some of them couldn’t even take the joke that Russo wanted Tony dead in Captain America: Civil War. Or maybe they’re just furious with themselves because once again, they forgot about Snopes and Google. Not to mention common sense.

Avengers: Endgame is now available to the world digitally. Or, you can wait to relive Joe Russo’s fake favorite moment over and over again starting on August 13th, when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray.
