But wait, how old is Harry? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Yup, according to the timeline of the books, Harry turns 39 today as he was born in 1980 (his time at Hogwarts begins in 1991). Feeling old yet? You should be.

On a happier note, here are just a few of the heartwarming messages folks are leaving on Twitter to mark Harry’s birthday. And let’s not forget that it’s author J.K. Rowling’s birthday, too, who’s turning 54. The writer handily gave her protagonist the same birthday as her own, which probably made it easier to remember.

This quote from the first novel turned out to be uncannily accurate.

Fans are even sharing some awesome artwork to mark the occasion, complete with misspellings that Hagrid would be proud of.

We hope you’re all making deliberately-bad birthday cakes like this today as well.

Ok, yeah sure, Harry’s great and all that, but have you ever considered this before?

The Harry Potter movies might have wrapped up back in 2012, but the chronicles of Wizarding World history are still unfolding in the form of the Fantastic Beasts films. The third entry in the prequel series will further explore the ramifications of the second’s big revelation: that Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) is actually the secret younger brother of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).

Unfortunately, it’s been pushed back from its original scheduled production date of later this year and will now shoot in 2020 instead, ahead of its arrival in cinemas in November 2021. As soon as we learn more about it, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
