Tom Hiddleston Says To Expect A Very Different Loki In Disney Plus Series

In a recent interview with EW, Tom Hiddleston revealed that we'll get to see a new and exciting version of Loki in the Disney Plus series.

For a guy who played the same mischievous character for eight years, Tom Hiddleston sure sounds excited to also be bringing him to life in a TV show for who knows how much longer. Loki will soon be coming to Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney Plus, and the actor has promised a new, exciting version of the villain-turned-hero.

Set to begin immediately after Loki escapes from captivity with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, the show will follow the God of Mischief’s adventures from that point on. A new timeline was created after his getaway, so the possible plotlines for the series are pretty much endless.

As for the title character, Hiddleston spoke with EW about how excited he was to return to the role. Remember the good old days when a character dying meant we never saw them again? Yeah…me neither.

Here’s what the actor had to say:

“It’s very, very exciting because in many ways it’s the character you know, but in a context you’ve never seen him in before. And if I say any more, I’m gonna say too much. So that’s what’s so thrilling; there’s so much to explore that I haven’t yet explored. That’s very exciting.”

Exciting, thrilling, and more exciting…got it. Now he’s just getting me excited! You know what’s even more of a thrill, though? We’re going to get to see the villainous version of Loki again. When he was in custody in Endgame, Hulk had just finished handing him his Jotunheimian ass and he was probably beginning to regret his evil ways, but was far from abandoning them. The Loki we’ll get to see, however Marvel lays it out, will be more bad than good.

That’s straight from the Norse god’s mouth, too. Fresh from Marvel’s Hall H panel at this year’s SDCC, here are Hiddleston’s words:

“Just about the last thing that happened to him was he got Hulk-smashed. So there’s a lot of psychological evolution that is still yet to happen,” he said at the Marvel Comic-Con panel. “[Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] has generally shown me what his plans are. I can’t tell you any of them, but it is one of the most exciting creative opportunities I think I’ve ever come across. This is new territory, a new world, new challenges, and I cannot wait to get started.”

As for how this will all lend to the plot of the series, time will tell. There are plenty of rumors about how the show will play out, though: time travel and the god of pranks appearing as different versions of himself, just to name a couple. We’ll find out for sure though in the spring of 2021, when Loki comes to Disney Plus.
