Film and video games aren’t exactly known to mesh well. Generally speaking, in fact, such crossovers are often considered cash grabs, cobbled together with insultingly small budgets and frequently considered some of the worst games ever made. Both Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines and Transformers: The Game are proof enough of that. But you know what they say – rules are made to be broken.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is one such exception and is scheduled to arrive in just a few months. Originally released in 2009 for the last generation of consoles, Terminal Reality’s action-adventure based on the iconic film series was lauded for its dedication to authentically replicating the movies, even going so far as to feature each main character from the films. Not content with securing the likenesses of Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, each actor even contributed vocals to their respective characters, much to the delight of fans.

Fortunately, as a remaster rather than a remake, all of the above will remain intact for this re-release, which boasts high-resolution visuals and no doubt a myriad of other miscellaneous touch-ups. The image posted above should provide a decent idea of how much care and attention to detail is being poured into the remaster, development of which won’t be handled by Terminal Reality, having closed its doors for good back in 2013. Instead, Saber Interactive will be handling the spruce job on Ghostbusters: The Video Game and plans to launch on October 4th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
As is the case with many titles recently, Epic Games has secured exclusive rights for the PC version, so Steam users will likely have to wait for an additional few months. Assuming the deal is of a timed nature, of course.
