About a year ago, it was announced that Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger had developed a concept for a film that would “chronicle the late-1970’s music world through the eyes of a drug-addled record executive, as rock, disco and the burgeoning hip-hop scene began to change the landscape of the industry – seemingly ready to embrace the encroaching ‘80s, while focusing on two friends’ 40-year relationship in the music industry.”
Jagger had then spoken to his Shine A Light director, Martin Scorsese, who agreed to direct the project. However, since then, nothing had been said, until now.
Screen Rant is reporting that after Jagger approached Disney and then Paramount about the feature film, HBO and Paramount re-imagined the project into a television series.
Terrence Winter, the man behind Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos, has now been hired to write the pilot for the project, which has gone by the titles of History of Music and The Long Play.
HBO has reportedly scaled the project back to focusing more on the end of the era, instead of spanning over a few and they plan for Scorsese to executive produce the show, alongside Jagger.
There is no news yet on casting or a shoot date, but this project sounds incredibly interesting and unique, and if anyone can pull it off, it’s Scorsese and Winter.
