The latest trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield has arrived and it’s packed with new details to pore over. Several new features, including Poké Jobs, new NPCs and form-changing mechanics were detailed in the latest info dump, but we’ll get around to those in due time. In identical fashion to the handful of Alolan Pokémon found in those games, Galarian forms straddle the line between new and old by giving existing ‘Mons a total redesign. As of writing, just three (and a potential fourth, but we’ll get to that) of these environmental oddities have been revealed, all of which you can check out below.

No, your eyes don’t deceive you – that is a Generation 1 Weezing sporting a massive smokestack on its head. A reference to the UK’s industrial origins, no doubt, but the crazy train doesn’t stop there. The raccoon-inspired Generation 3 Pokémon Zigzagoon has undergone its own transformation, this time trading its brown and beige stripes for black and white. Linoone, its evolved form, has received a similar treatment and, if I had to guess, draws its inspiration from a skunk.

In regards to the aforementioned potential fourth Galarian Pokémon, that would be Obstagoon. Why the uncertain classification? Well, this scary-looking fella evolves only from a Galarian Linoone and therefore has no normal counterpart. What with today’s trailer also making no mention of it being a Galarian variant, I can only assume it’s simply intended to be a standalone Pokédex entry.

Clarification on that front will no doubt come in due time but for now, feel free to check out the latest trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield below. Enjoy!
