Even though it’s set to release in a few months, there’s still so much we don’t know about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The third and final installment in the much-beloved Sequel Trilogy is set to pit the Resistance against the First Order once more, with the never-ending conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaching its climax. After complaints about The Last Jedi‘s plot and character arcs hit an all-time high, Lucasfilm decided to hand the franchise back to J.J. Abrams, who helmed The Force Awakens.
While The Last Jedi itself wasn’t a terrible movie by any means – our very own Matt Donato rather enjoyed it – some took issue with the trek out to Canto Bight, the lack of development for Supreme Leader Snoke and the reveal that Rey’s parents were insignificant nobodies. The latter really soured moviegoers, considering it was teased and built up for quite some time.
However, while Rey might not be descended from Luke, Leia, or Han, there’s always a chance her family could make an appearance in the upcoming film. And as EpicStream (via: Making Star Wars) reports, her mother might be none other than Zori Bliss, a new character who’s to be played by Keri Russell.
“In the film, we get to see a younger version of Rey being left on Jakku while a ship flies off in the distance,” writes the outlet. “Though some have hoped that this would turn out to be either Han Solo (Harrison Ford) or Luke Skywalker, a new theory suggests that it might be that new character we’re supposed to see in Star Wars: Episode IX – Zorri Bliss.”
Zori has been described as a rogue, but at the time of writing, not much else is known about her. As seen above, though, some are speculating that she was piloting the ship which dropped Rey off on Jakku (as seen in The Force Awakens), and Inverse reports that Russell and Mark Hamill (who played Luke Skywalker) filmed scenes together, suggesting that there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until we hear official confirmation from Disney, but if this turns out to be true, it’ll be sure to please Star Wars fans who were left disappointed by The Last Jedi.
