Arrow season 8

Arrow 2040 Spinoff Is Still A Possibility, Says The CW

Arrow season 8 will be the show's last, but thanks to the ever-growing DC shared universe it's created on The CW, fans are holding out hope that this isn't it for the Emerald Archer's corner of the Arrowverse. In fact, the series recently set up the perfect spinoff - continuing the adventures of Oliver Queen's kids, Mia (Katherine McNamara) and William (Ben Lewis), in Star City 2040, as seen in the flash-forwards.

Fans have frequently called for such a show to happen, but The CW hasn’t responded to the speculation…until now, that is. At the TCAs this past weekend, the network’s president Mark Pedowitz was asked about the potential for an “Arrow Beyond” type spinoff. Interestingly, he didn’t rule out the idea, but admitted that discussions hadn’t really come down either way on the concept just yet. So, it sounds like it’s a possibility, but it’s just not The CW’s priority right now.

Pedowitz’s answer to this question also gave us the news that the network is working on a different new Arrowverse show for next season. He didn’t say much about what this is, but he did make clear that it won’t be a spinoff from Arrow but rather, an original property. He also promised that there’s a lot of life left in the franchise as a whole, so it seems likely that more DC TV series could arrive on The CW in time. Fingers crossed the Arrow 2040 show is one of them.

In the meantime, the flash-forwards will continue in season 8, as McNamara, Joseph David-Jones (Connor Hawke) and new addition Charlie Barnett (John Diggle Jr.) have been bumped up to the regular cast this year. We’ll have to see how much the door is left open for more stories to tell in the future of the Green Arrow’s hometown by the time Arrow has wrapped for good.
