Avengers: Endgame Director Reveals When Steve And Peggy’s Dance Takes Place

Avengers: Endgame may have been the biggest superhero movie of all time. But it ended on one of the most touchingly human moments in all of the MCU. Steve Rogers travels back in time and is reunited with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. The final scene has the two in a loving embrace, dancing a slow dance as they celebrate their life together and the peace and tranquility that the two had yearned for their whole lives but never got. At least, that's what the fans thought the dialogue-less scene was depicting.

Steve Rogers travels back in time and is reunited with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. The final scene then has the two in a loving embrace, dancing a slow dance as they celebrate their married life together and the peace and tranquility that they’d yearned for for decades but never got. At least, that’s what the fans thought the dialogue-less scene was depicting.

But as it turns out, this moment wasn’t showing us Captain America dancing with his wife in their new home. On the commentary track for Avengers: Endgame that accompanies the film’s digital release, writer Stephen McFeely and director Joe Russo offer a different interpretation for the scene, revealing that it actually took place pretty soon after they reunited.

“I think it should be noted, it’s sometimes hard to notice, the door is open here,” says McFeely.

“This is very shortly after their reunion,” added Russo.

“I imagine that, about 10 minutes ago, he knocked on the door, she dropped whatever she was holding,” said McFeely.

So, the final scene in the movie occurs very shortly after Steve uses the Pym Particles to travel back in time, placing the Infinity Stones back in their original locations. Once that crucial part of the mission was completed, he finally felt that he’d done his duty to humanity, a duty that began with the first Captain America movie where he was fighting Nazis during the Second World War with American lives at stake, and ended several decades later battling Thanos with the fate of the universe at stake.

With that in mind, we’d say that Cap more than deserves that final reunion with Peggy, and we can understand his eagerness to have a dance with her. So much so that as soon as he landed in her timeline in Avengers: Endgame, he apparently didn’t waste a minute in tracking Agent Carter down at her house and finally making it happen.
