Here’s What Happened To Neville Longbottom After Harry Potter Ended

Even though the last book in the series released well over a decade ago, don't expect the Harry Potter franchise to disappear anytime soon. Aside from the theme parks at Universal resorts (which are always being tweaked and worked on), Warner Bros. has at least three more films in the pipeline (as part of the spinoff Fantastic Beasts series). And of course, there's a slew of video games, Pottermore updates and some new books to keep us totally hooked on the Wizarding World as well.

Even with these new products though, longtime fans are most drawn to J.K. Rowling’s original books. After all, the seven novels only provided a glimpse into the rich history of wizards and witches, and some still have questions regarding their favorite characters. We’ve already explained what happened to Rubeus Hagrid after the series came to a close, but ScreenRant has now taken the time to report on what happened to Neville Longbottom.

As diehard devotees will know, Neville is one of Harry Potter’s classmates at Hogwarts and was also sorted into Gryffindor upon arrival. However, as it was revealed later on in the books, the prophecy that foretold Voldemort’s destruction by a young boy born at the end of July could have also referred to Neville (it seems this important tidbit wasn’t explained in the movies).

While he was portrayed as a bit clumsy in the beginning, Longbottom grew into his own as he got older and ended up destroying one of Voldemort’s horcruxes at the Battle of Hogwarts. After the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Neville worked as an Auror for some time, before returning to Hogwarts to take on the role of Herbology professor. He married Hanna Abbott – one of his former classmates – and for a while, the two lived above the Leaky Cauldron, where she was employed as a landlady.

He might not have had the most exciting life after graduating, but we’re glad that Neville settled down and eventually came back to teach at the very school he attended. We won’t be seeing him in any of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts movies, of course, though we’re hoping his character will be fleshed out a bit more on Pottermore, the official interactive website and information portal for the Harry Potter series.
