Disney’s D23 Sizzle Reel Teases Deadpool Coming To The MCU

We don't know much about how Marvel will fold Fox's former properties, like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, into the MCU just yet, but something we are sure of is that we'll be seeing more of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. The actor is now indistinguishable from the character, so there's no way they'd replace him. What's more, the past two DP movies were the highest-grossing entries in Fox's X-Men franchise, so that's further incentive to keep him.

The latest promise that the Merc with a Mouth will be back comes via Disney’s sizzle reel at D23 today. The Disney Legends ceremony kicked off with a reel of footage which teased the studio’s upcoming projects, including everything from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to those Avatar sequels. And as ScreenRant reports, a clip from Deadpool was also featured in the footage, which naturally got a huge cheer from fans in the crowd.

While Disney including some old scenes of the antihero in their sizzle reel doesn’t say much on the surface, it actually speaks volumes. Note that no other clips from Fox’s X-Men movies were highlighted. That’s because it’s been all but confirmed that we won’t be seeing the rest of the mutants again. Only Reynolds’ Regenerating Degenerate will survive the studio switch, according to reports.

Of course, there’s been a lot of chatter about whether Disney will have to tone down DP’s style to fit in with their brand, but most signs are actually pointing to a positive outcome. Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is optimistic that a happy medium will be met, while Disney CEO Bob Iger has maintained that R-rated Marvel films are a possibility. Likewise, Kevin Feige has also promised that he doesn’t want to change a thing about the Deadpool movies.

This tease in the sizzle reel might even hint that further info on DP’s future in the MCU is coming later this weekend at D23. As such, stay tuned to WGTC for all the latest updates.
