If you’re anything like me, then you simply can’t get enough of the Arrowverse. Fortunately, there have been other ways for us to get our fix outside of the TV series themselves. Though it sure would be nice to receive a video game of some sort, tie-in novels, comic books and animated movies/web series have done a fine job of broadening the experience.
Well, get ready for the next addition to the brand, as it’ll come in the form of an audio series. That’s right, Serial Box and Warner Bros. are partnering up to take us back to the days when Superman delighted lovers of radio plays back in the 1940s.
Similar to what Serial Box did with Orphan Black, so, too, will Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl receive that treatment. Each episode in said series will be the “length of an average commute,” so I’d wager them being around twenty or thirty minutes a piece.
Let it be known that The Flash will be the first to join this endeavor with an eight-episode saga written by Gwenda Bond and Christopher Rowe. Here’s the synopsis given for that one:
Lex Luthor has altered the past so that The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl are now all bad to the bone, fighting for evil and for an altered timeline to become a permanent fixture in the multiverse. But even as the heroes go rogue, their friends and lovers still half-remember the fight to correct the timeline and restore the DC Super Heroes to the right side of justice.
Based on that description, I’d say these stories are capable of being placed in Arrowverse canon, yet won’t be mentioned on the TV shows themselves. Again, this serves to enrich the overall brand. Actually, I read a few Flash and Arrow tie-in novels earlier this summer and enjoyed them immensely, so I may give these audio adventures a shot.
When it comes to the TV shows we’ve come to love, know that Supergirl returns with new episodes on Sunday, October 6th on The CW, with The Flash following on Tuesday, October 8th and Arrow bringing up the rear on Tuesday, October 15th.
