Theo Epstein Is Now Running The Chicago Cubs

This isn't just a win for the Chicago Cubs, this has the potential to be a huge deal for Major League Baseball. I'd be willing to wager that if ESPN or some other network would have made a 'Decision' type spectacle out of the press conference introducing the new Wonder Team the Cubs assembled, that the ratings would come close to that of the World Series.

Cubs fans rejoice.  The ‘wait til next year’ mantra has some real meaning to it now. Even if next year resembles more of a rebuild season, which it will, the future is bright.  Theo Epstein is the President Of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs.

This isn’t just a win for the Chicago Cubs, this has the potential to be a huge deal for Major League Baseball. I’d be willing to wager that if ESPN or some other network would have made a ‘Decision’ type spectacle out of the press conference introducing the new Wonder Team the Cubs assembled, that the ratings would come close to that of the World Series.

And speaking of that Wonder Team, the Cubs are also adding former Padres G.M. Jed Hoyer to take the same position in Chicago and they’re looking to ass Padres assistant G.M. Jason McLeod.  All three worked together in Boston and had a hand in ending their World Series drought.

Epstein will have his work cut out for him, the status of manager Mike Quade and the coaching staff will need to be immediately addressed, there are some high priced players that they’ll have to evaluate, the farm system will need a complete overhaul to bring in their type of players, and he’ll have to complete the deal for himself and send compensation to the Red Sox.

Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts released this press release today, check it out below.

Welcome Theo Epstein

When my family introduced ourselves as the new owners of the Chicago Cubs almost two years ago, we stated our # 1 goal was winning a World Series Championship.

Today, we took another big step toward that goal by announcing today that Theo Epstein has joined the Chicago Cubs as the new President of Baseball Operations reporting directly to me.

In his new role, Theo will be given the resources and opportunity to build a strong foundation and the winning culture that our organization and fans deserve.

We are energized about our future and hope you’re equally excited for the possibilities ahead.

Thank you for your tremendous support this year and I look forward to seeing you in 2012.

All my best,

Tom Ricketts
Chairman, Chicago Cubs
