Though The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride aren’t the cheeriest looking kids’ movies, they certainly are memorable, thanks to the stop-motion style of Tim Burton.

Today, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we now have our first look at Burton’s latest 3D stop-motion adventure – Frankenweenie.

Frankenweenie is based on a live action short Burton originally created for Disney in 1984. The short is about a dog named Sparky who gets brought back from the dead Frankenstein style. Burton favorites Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short will lend their voices to the film.

I know Burton’s style isn’t for everyone, but I happen to love the gothic, Victorian spin he adds to just about everything. I’m definitely looking forward to this film, but considering it’s about a dead dog, I also plan on shedding more than a few tears.

Check out one more picture and a synopsis below and be sure to let us know what you think.

When young Victor’s (Charlie Tahan) pet dog Sparky (who stars in Victor’s home-made monster movies) is hit by a car, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked “monster” wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor’s neighbors, he has to convince them (and his parents) that despite his appearance, Sparky’s still the good loyal friend he’s always been.

Sounds a lot like Edward Scissorhands, doesn’t it?
