Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported that actor Gary Oldman was offered the role of the Colonel in the upcoming adaptation of Akira. Now Deadline is reporting that Oldman is also being sought for the role of Merlin in another Warner Bros. project, Arthur & Lancelot.
The film, which is a contemporary retelling of the classic tale, is being directed by David Dobkin from a screenplay he wrote himself. You may know Dobkin from his less-than-stellar filmography which includes having directed the films The Change-Up, Fred Clause, and Wedding Crashers.
Warner Bros. currently has Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the role of Lancelot and will begin testing actors for the role of Arthur shortly. Currently, Oldman is busy filming the final part in Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, in New York. He can be seen this December in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for which he is receiving rave reviews and serious Oscar buzz.
Arthur & Lancelot is currently in pre-production and is set for release on March 15, 2013.
