It seems that changing developers isn’t the only major difference for the newly resurrected Metal Gear Rising. According to the new official site for the game, the story has taken a significant change as well.

Whereas Rising was originally supposed to showcase how Raiden went from whiny little kid in Metal Gear Solid 2 to cybernetic slicing and dicing awesomepants in Metal Gear Solid 4, the game will now take place several years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4. Raiden becomes involved in PMCs and takes on various jobs from protection to military training. Cyborgs are quickly becoming rampant, and Raiden finds himself mixed in the middle of it.

It makes sense that the game was put in an era so Platinum can’t accidentally go against canon or anything. Although, given the final events of Metal Gear Solid 4, can Raiden even become his ninja self anymore? It’ll be interesting to see where the game goes now.

Metal Gear Rising is expected for release sometime in 2012.
