Kathryn Bigelow‘s untitled Osama bin Laden film has gone through more changes then I care to remember. Originally, the film was supposed to be about the search for bin Laden, but after his death the script underwent various re-writes in order to change from being about hunting bin Laden to actually finding and killing him.

When the film first surfaced, Joel Edgerton‘s name was attached, along with many others. But as the production continued to ramp up and add more members to the cast like Jason Clarke and Chris Pratt, Edgerton was nowhere to be seen. Variety is now confirming that Edgerton is locked and loaded for the film.

In addition to the confirmation of Edgerton, Deadline is reporting that Mark Strong, Jessica Chastain and Edgar Ramirez may also join the hefty cast. The only downside to all of these new names added is that one particular name has been taken off the list; Rooney Mara. With the possible Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel starting up next year there just wouldn’t be any room for her to fit it into her schedule.

I think Mara would have been a great fit for the film, but I’ll gladly take Edgerton, Strong and Chastain in her place. Kathryn Bigelow‘s untitled Osama bin Laden flick is scheduled to start filming very soon with a December 19th, 2012 release date.
