Lindsay Lohan is currently in the early talks to play Elizabeth Taylor in the original Lifetime movie Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story. The film will chronicle the life and relationship between Taylor and another movie icon, Richard Burton, one of the most publicized and notorious romances of its day.
Moviehole is reporting that Lifetime is aiming for Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story to be part of its 2011-12 development slate. The movie was written by Temple Grandin scribe Christopher Monger and produced by Larry Thompson. It was first announced at the network’s upfront presentation to its advertisers in May 2011.
Lohan is a front-runner for the part, because she has been noted for her physical resemblance to Taylor. They are also similar in the fact that they also both had domineering stage mothers, very little time for a true childhood as they both rose to fame at an early age, faced substance abuse issues, public emotional breakdowns and have been featured in numerous tabloids.
The Mean Girls actress, much like Taylor, gained acclaimed for her early roles, in Disney remakes like The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. In recent years, Lohan has been making headlines more for her personal mishaps than her acting roles.
Her most recent screen appearances include a minor role in 2010’s Machete, and the lead in the 2009 ABC Family original movie Labor Pains, but really, she’s fallen off the map in terms of acting. Maybe this could be the role that puts her back, what do you think?
