Turns out the rumors were true. It is now confirmed that Colin Farrell was not only offered the lead role in Les Wiseman’s Total Recall remake, but he is also now in negotiations for the role. Working off a Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen) script, Wiseman will attempt to contemporize Phillip K. Dick’s source story.
There isn’t much else to report on but this is definitely good news. The original Total Recall is a great film and if you haven’t yet seen it, you should really check it out. Remaking it could be a bad idea if it were handled by the wrong people but I think the trio of Farrell, Wiseman and Wimmer could do great things with the remake.
Farrell in the lead role is a solid choice. Despite some missteps along the way, he’s had a fairly successful career. With films like Phonebooth, In Bruges and Minority Report, he’s showed us he is more than capable of providing solid and stirring performances.
Also in running for the role were Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy, either of whom I would have been fine with had they got the part.
What do you think? Do you want to see Farrell in the role?
