Eva Mendes is back with the coming-of-age tale called Girl in Progress.

The film tells a story of a young single mother raising her teenage daughter (Cierra Ramirez) and trying not to make the same mistakes as her own mother, but failing miserably.

Her daughter takes things in her own hands and decides to try her hand at being an adult, using her mother as a semi-example of what that means. Her only outlet, an interested counselor at school played by Patricia Arquette. The film also stars Matthew Modine and Mexican star Eugenio Derbez.

Lionsgate is set to release the film on April 27, 2012.
