With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in full swing in Los Angeles, the big question is which of the new gaming systems look best for selling superiority this coming holiday season, and the early answer seemed to be Microsoft's Xbox One. But that was yesterday, and to borrow an old saying, "What a difference a day makes."
According to the website Market for Computer and Video Games, Amazon.co.uk has the Xbox One tracking 2.3 per cent ahead of the Playstation 4 in pre-orders. Pre-orders for the Xbox One are also beating the pace set by its predecessor the Xbox 360 by 20 per cent. Those a interesting numbers, but not at all conclusive, right.
Director Roland Emmerich has been making a lot of noise lately about continuing the saga of Independence Day, the alien invasion blow-em-up that was a box office sensation in 1996. The impression that we, the general public, gathered from all that talk is that Emmerich was fairly close to a script, or development, or something. But today there's news that Emmerich may be looking at new alien invasion ventures other than revisiting the world(s) of ID4.
In an excellent case of corporate synergy, it seems as though Warner Bros. is attaching the first, full trailer of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to next week's release of Man of Steel. However, if you're not planning on making Man of Steel part of your weekend plans, the trailer will debut online on Wednesday June 12, at 10 am PDT. The early reviews for World War Z are mixed, as in somewhere between fair and disappointing. The film had its London-premiere this past weekend, and while the initial big news was Angelina Jolie's first night out since she had a preemptive double mastectomy, considering that the movie cost nearly $200 million, was the subject of rumours concerning friction between star and director and was bumped from its prestigious holiday release date, the big news should be whether or not it's any good.
It took a bit longer than normal to capitalize on a viral video like this, but it seems that progress is moving forward on turning Patrick Jean's three-minute short, Pixels, into a feature-length motion picture, and Harry Potter filmmaker Chris Columbus may be the man to do it.
It looks like this Oscar season is going to be the battle of the princesses as the Naomi Watts-starring biopic Diana may be released by year's end to be eligible for the 2014 Academy Awards.
Considering that it's been 20 years since the release of Jurassic Park, it wouldn't come as a complete surprise if someone wanted to remake it. But you can't just remake one of the most successful films of all time directed by one of the most successful filmmakers of all time, right? Surely no one would be up for such a colossal task. A reboot though, well, that could work.

It's been 14 years since Vin Diesel first appeared in Pitch Black as Riddick, the intergalactic criminal who can see in the dark. The Alien-esque story about a spaceship that crashes on a planet full of monsters that only come out at night developed a cult-following so strong that director David Twohy tried to launch a big-budget Chronicles of Riddick trilogy in 2004, but when it failed to find a big audience, it seemed we'd never get another Riddick movie.
