Sometimes the most-used formulas are the most-used for a reason. A prime example of that is haunted house movies. No matter how many we've seen over the years, there's still always something unsettling about the thought of having a ghost for a roommate. In recent years, few have used that formula better than Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, and they're going to try to do it at least one more time with Home, which now has Topher Grace attached to star.
It takes a special sort of actor to successfully step into the leading role of an already-established action franchise. Chris Pine has managed to do this not once, but twice in recent years, proving that he's definitely got a future as a leading man in Hollywood. That's a sentiment that many people seem to share, including David Gordon Green, who has just cast Pine in the lead role in his upcoming thriller The Line.
There aren't many television shows, especially sitcoms, that have managed to hit the illustrious 200-episode mark. Usually, a series has either been canceled or simply wrapped up long before it can get past an 8th season. Tonight, however, How I Met Your Mother joined that group. Over the last nine years there have been some high points for the show and there have definitely been some low points, but overall it's remarkable to see how it's managed to stay fresh, stay funny, and keep its fans caring about the five main characters after all these years.
Lana Del Rey is well on her way to becoming the Kenny Loggins of our time. In 2013 she sang the best song on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, standing far above the other talented performers and lively tracks featured in that film. Now, with the new trailer for Disney's Maleficent, we get our first peek at her low-key cover of "Once Upon A Dream."
Due to the over-saturation of the zombie movie market in recent years, filmmakers have been trying to get a little more creative with their genre cross-overs. The newest member of the zom-com family is Life After Beth, which after premiering to solid reviews at Sundance, has been picked up for distribution by A24.
A few weeks ago we heard that Batman Vs. Superman was vacating its summer 2015 slot in favor of May 2016. It was safe to assume such a prime weekend wouldn't remain unclaimed for too long, and sure enough, today we have word that Disney is swooping in and bumping Ant-Man up to July 17th.
The pause and unpause technique of Lily and Marshall is one of my favorite relationship quirks on television. Over the years its been a a funny and sweet thing for one of TV's greatest couples to employ. Still, with knowing that unpause was going to come in this episode of How I Met Your Mother, it wasn't something I was looking forward to seeing, and when it finally does come, the actual fight scene is more painful to watch than I ever could have expected.
The thought of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, How I Met Your Dad, has been pretty polarizing since the news officially broke in November. Some fans are excited about more TV in the same format coming from Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, but the majority seem to think a new show with different characters simply won't live up to the standards set by the current series.
It looks like MGM is trying to replicate the massive success of Skyfall by keeping as many of the same pieces in place for Bond 24. Sam Mendes will be back to direct, and the writing duties have been handed to John Logan, who co-wrote the 23rd installment in the franchise. Recently, when talking with Logan about his new series Penny Dreadful, IGN took the opportunity to ask a few questions about the next 007 flick. While the write didn't say anything too revealing, he did state they're trying to build off what they did with Skyfall.
Earlier in the week, news broke that Donal Logue had been offered the lead role of Jim Gordon in Fox's upcoming series Gotham. Logue instantly denied the rumors, but it's not uncommon for actors to play dumb when something leaks out. It turns out the original reports were wrong though, and rather than being offered the lead role, Logue might actually play detective Harvey Bullock on the show.
